Lansdowne Cricket Club - Wairarapa Cricket
Nov 16 - Match Report
On the 16th of November Lansdowne Premiers played Wairarapa College in a T20 match and Lansdowne 2nds and 3rds played each against each other in a well fought battle.
This weekend also coincided with the Representative team playing their first Hawke Cup match versus a well drilled Hawkes Bay side, therefore the Lansdowne Premiers were missing no less than five key performers so it was great to welcome back a few old faces like Daniel Ingham, Tyrone Ewington and Joel Macklin as well as a debut for Josh Jaques. At the toss Captain Ford Burr won and elected to bat.
The premiers got off to a flyer however, after losing a couple of cheap wickets, the side had to rebuild. Fortunately the team was able to bat around opener Justin Herbert who has been in amongst the runs this season so far and was again the top run scorer with 75, and with this major contribution the side was able to reach 145/6 after 20 overs. Other key contributions came from Aaron Bidlake (28), and Jaques (15). Burr thought this would be a competitive total and it did turn out to be that way as the College did not attempt to reach the total.
All of the bowlers maintained a good line and length and were well backed up in the field. Wairarapa Collage ended their 20 overs 96 for 8 off 20 overs. Key performers with the ball were Jock Cameron who took 2 Wickets for 14, Ewington 2 for 24 and Macklin 2 wickets for 20 all off four overs. The team now prepares for a T20 this Thursday against Rathkeale College at Rathkeale oval then a 50 over match verses Kuranui College Old Boys on Saturday. Which is the last before the finals.
In the Club versus Club battle Lansdowne 2nds won the toss and decided to bat first making 222/5 off 40 overs with Paul Graham making 85*, Nathan Robinson 35 and Robbie Elphick 33. With Andy Rogers 2-21 off 8 overs and Kanu Patel 1-28 off 8 Overs the best of the 3rds bowling attack.
In reply Lansdowne 3rds made 180/7 off their 40 overs Regan Fricker 48, Gareth McEwen 29* and Jason Lee 26. The pick of the 2nds bowlers were Nathan Robinson 2-21 off 7 overs, Eugene Cribb 2-25 off 8 overs and AJ Bloomfield 1-34 off 7 overs.
Lansdowne 2 had a 42 run win over Lansdowne 3 - It was a good, well spirited, local derby!
All in all a great weekend for the club and more great ones to be had.
